Bajaj Chetak Hits 5 Lakh: India Goes Electric Bajaj Chetak Hits a Major Milestone The Bajaj Chetak, India’s beloved electric scooter, has achieved a remarkable milestone by crossing 5,10,000 units in sales since its launch in January 2020. This achievement reflects not just the growing popularity of electric vehicles in India but also the trust riders place in the Chetak brand. What’s truly impressive is that a significant portion of these sales—over 40 percent—has occurred in just the last ten months, highlighting the accelerating shift towards electric mobility. A Journey of Steady Growth When Bajaj first introduced the Chetak, it took 46 months to reach the 1,00,000-unit mark. Fast forward to today, and the scooter has surged past the 5 lakh mark, despite facing temporary production halts due to rare-earth magnet shortages. These supply chain challenges could have slowed momentum, yet the Chetak continued to maintain its position among India’s top-selling electric scooters, often trading the top spot with competitors like the TVS iQube. The recent surge in sales can be attributed to Bajaj’s strategic approach. By offering multiple variants within the Chetak lineup and leveraging an extensive service network of over 3,800 touchpoints across the country, Bajaj has made ownership easier and more convenient for customers, ensuring that the scooter remains a preferred choice for urban commuters. Strong Demand in Recent Months Out of the total 5,10,007 Chetak scooters sold, 3,48,251 units were dispatched in just 20 months since April 2024, and notably, the last 2 lakh units moved in less than ten months. This surge clearly indicates that Indian riders are embracing electric mobility at an unprecedented pace, encouraged by the combination of design, performance, and reliability that the Chetak offers. Diverse Lineup for Every Rider The Bajaj Chetak range currently features four models across two battery configurations. The Chetak 3001 is powered by a 3kWh battery, while the 3501, 3502, and 3503 variants are equipped with a larger 3.5kWh battery pack, offering extended range and flexibility. Ex-showroom prices for the Chetak range from Rs 99,900 to Rs 1.35 lakh, making it accessible for a wide range of buyers looking to make the switch to clean mobility without compromising on style or performance. Looking Ahead With production now back on track and demand continuing to rise, the Bajaj Chetak is set to strengthen its position as a frontrunner in India’s electric scooter market. Its success story not only underscores the growing acceptance of electric vehicles but also highlights the country’s readiness to embrace sustainable transportation solutions for the future. Bajaj’s commitment to innovation, coupled with a robust service network, has made the Chetak a symbol of India’s electric mobility revolution—a scooter that blends style, performance, and eco-friendly technology seamlessly.
